Studio Master Mains Purifier
The UK based company Puritan Audio Laboratories specialised in audio/video mains filtering ever since it was founded. They made some of the most respected filters during their existence. Their PSM136 with its precision symmetrically balanced circuitry is the much lauded Purifier with 6 fully independent outputs and 39 finely tuned filter elements. It will lift your system into a higher dimension. Definition takes a step forward, individual instruments gain air between them with their sound and timbre becoming believable, the sound-stage will move out of your speakers and into the room with gains in three dimensionality, with clarity definition and space between the instruments for them to interrelate rather than muddle each other. Your listening will become more engaging and a more pleasurable experience.
DC filtering prevents transformer buzz and allows it to breathe properly at full efficiency, it removes common and differential mode interference, enhancing clarity, staging and dynamics while further lowering the noise floor and further enhancing clarity and dynamics.
If you don’t have an empty shelf in your audio rack, you can place the unit behind the rack in a vertical position, using the optional Puritan Facedown Converter Plate.
Review:
The Puritan PSM136: “Removing the Noise, So You Can Hear Your Toys” by Paul Rigby @ theaudiophileman.com
“The principle effect of the Puritan on music was to remove noise to allow you to hear the music that was being masked by it. The removal of associated effects such as vocal slurring and instrumental bloom and smearing is another obvious indication. More importantly than these valuable assets, though, was that it did all of these things without removing dynamic extension. On the contrary, the extension was enhanced. That was my chief worry with this system but I had no need to be concerned. The Puritan is a great addition to any hi-fi chain.”
GOOD: “focus, airy midrange, low noise, timing, tonal accuracy” | BAD: “nothing at the price”
Puritan Audio Labs PSM136 “Mains Power, can’t live with it, can’t shoot it!” by Jason Kennedy @ the-ear.net
“Results will vary with location of course, you may be lucky enough to have relatively clean mains power but if you’re in an urban area that is sadly very unlikely. In the context of any revealing system the Puritan PSM136 is a great value upgrade that’s well made and sensibly priced. You get slightly better results with a well designed mains regenerator but will have to pay three times as much for nearly as many outlets. Puritan have done a great job in building a solid and powerful weapon with which to combat the evils that beset mains power in the home today, if you want to know how good your system really is I recommend you investigate.”
